EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is a mind-body practice that combines elements of modern psychology with gentle tapping on specific points of the body, similar to acupressure. It’s often referred to simply as “tapping”.
EFT works by calming the nervous system through a repeated tapping sequence on specific meridian points while using intentional phrases or affirmations. These tapping points are located on the top of the head, face, hands and upper body.
Emotional stress can become stored within the body. Tapping helps release this build up charge, allowing the body to return to a calmer, more regulated state.
People commonly use EFT to support:
- Stress and anxiety
- Overwhelm or burnout
- Emotional regulation
- Limiting beliefs
- Trauma support
- Nervous system regulation
EFT is effective because tapping sends a calming signal to the brain, helping shift the body out of fight to flight and into a rest and regulate state. This makes it easier to process emotions without becoming overwhelmed.
EFT can be practiced on its own or incorporated in to meditation, breath work, rituals, and bath or self-care practices. It can also be experienced in a group setting through tapping circles, where participants are guided through shared tapping sequences in a supportive and safe space.
